Our Winter Sports Club offers all-season ski jumping possibilities – just an hour north of Berlin in the region Märkisch-Oderland. But not even the unusual location makes Bad Freienwalde to a place that you’d surely love to visit! Five reasons why.
Reason 1: A unique place – experience ski jumping near Berlin!
May you find it hard to believe, but Bad Freienwalde is a well-known spot for ski jumping! How is that possible in the snow-poor Brandenburg? Our modern ski jumping facilities – the northernmost in Germany – offers all-season opportunities for training and prestigeous competitions. The tradition goes back to the 1920s. Because of the winter sport activities, chroniclers mentioned Bad Freienwalde as “St. Moritz of the Mark Brandenburg”.
Reason 2: Talent work at its best!
Even with the unusual winter sport conditions in Bad Freienwalde, the club – as a member of the Federal Ski Union of Brandenburg – provides high-class conditions for the nordic skiing sport. In ski jumping and nordic combined, our coach Stefan Wiedmann train young talents on a professional level. Our juniors belong to the best athletes in Germany and successfully taking part at competitions all over Europe.

Reason 3: German. Polish. Whatever. We live Europe!
The frequent exchange with our ski jumping enthusiastic neighbours is part of the club’s DNA. The project was born as a European baby – where athletes from Poland and even other winter sports nations train together or taking part at our widely popular ski jumping events. Since 2019, a bi-national team with young athletes from Poland and Germany to be developed in Bad Freienwalde.

Only together we shape unique winter sports experiences. A key to success of the WSV 1923 Bad Freienwalde is the passionate commitment of its members and supporters. Everyone can bring forward own ideas and spirit into the club. This creates a winter sports family for everyone!
Reason 5: Freienwalde is a perfect spot to enjoy outdoor activities!
To here we were just talking about the unique winter sports facilities and tradition. But in many regards the little spa-town of Freienwalde is definitely worth to visit! With its medicinal springs, Bad Freienwalde have perfect addresses to relax as well as for activity holidays – here, where the Oder River meet the hillscape ridge of the Märkische Schweiz that creates the image of an uplands region. If you love to hike or having a bike trip, the region around Bad Freienwalde will offer you great nature landscapes including wide forest areas to discover. Don’t miss it!
