About the risk of sport injuries, the importance of the parental support und the decision to become a ski jumper or nordic combined athlete – we answer to typical questions parents have. A brief FAQ.
At what age can you start ski jumping?
Ski jumping can be started from the age of five. Competitions are also held in this class (but it’s not a must). The older the more difficult it is to exercise ski jumping at a high level. Nevertheless, we are open to all ages. We also have active youth or adult athletes who started with ski jumping late.
How dangerous is ski jumping?
The risk of injury is no higher than in other sports like gymnastics, football or athletics. Statistics even show that the risk is far lower than in many “popular sports”. Falls on the hill rarely cause serious injuries. The gentle hill profile and varying facilities in Bad Freienwalde shape good conditions to exercise the sport with a higher safety.
Is ski jumping an expensive sport?
The material (jumping ski, special shoes, bindings, a suit, glasses, gloves…), the travels to competitions and training camps are – of course – related with many costs. But the winter sports club and our network will support in every situation and will find solutions to make the sport effordable for everyone.
How can/should parents get involved?
The support of mothers and fathers is very important. Our ski jumping parents form a good network with each other, pass on experiences and help with the organization. Since many of our ski jumpers do not come from Bad Freienwalde, we organize ridesharing opportunities, especially from/to Berlin or Eberswalde.
Is ski jumping the right sport for my child?
The decisive factor is the interest and will of the child to exercise the sport. Just contact our trainer! In a trial training session we carefully find out if ski jumping met the interest.
